Are they talking about a terminal for large cruise ships? Anyone know yet? A few hundred people getting off a boat at one time to swarm the town? Please say it ain't so. Maybe they Eagles were right, "You call someplace paradise, you're kissing it goodbye."

Now live from beautiful downtown San Pedro.

Rumor is they want to turn the concrete pier in front of central park into a new terminal for the Caye Caulker Water Taxi Assn. I presume this is what the meeting is about.

Given that it exists and the water taxi already has a dock, I don't see a problem with that. I assumed "terminal" meant a freight terminal, which I and many others would have a problem with. I wonder if the published invitation was deliberately vague or whether they just didn't think?

Is the threat of a Casino boat real or are you just kidding? I know it has been mentioned before but I always thought it was a joke.

Not a joke, pictures of the boat were shown on TV by the lawyer for South Beach/Reef Village. There was also a public hearing scheduled that was cancelled at the last minute.

The plans are for a 150' long, 3 story high boat to be moored on a 300' pier in front of Reef Village.

That is the most outrageous plan I have heard yet. I just do not understand why people move to a beautiful place like San Pedro and then do everything they can to destroy it. It makes no sense to me. There are many places that have already been destroyed by greedy speculators that would love to have a casino boat. I guess the idea is to make AC a destination place for gamblers. Hopefully the idea has been nixed by the new government. Yeah!

I think I am more than likely opening myself up to a barrage here, but I think that a casino boat that is ran tastefully could be good for the island. It is another thing that will attract money spending tourists to the island. Tourists always asked if the casino that just closed was any good (it was not). If you don't want to go to the casino boat, you don't have to. That is just my humble opinion though.
