Do we have anyone on this list that can tell us what is going on in Belize
City??

The radio is talking about mass evacuations to high land. Because the bay
is surging -- probably to between 7 and 12 feet. Many older people
remember well Janet -- and all the people killed just because of that back
surge.

I have a couple of problems with this. One I see a level exactly right for
a strong El Norde -- which literally blows the water out of the Bay -- and
Corozal gets low tide -- which is really not a tide -- because it sometimes
stays low for a couple of days -- or more. And this level is not moving --
as should be when a Norde is blowing -- or any wind from the North -- right?

Second -- the Hurricane would have to pass across the bay and then over us!
Keith is nowhere near enough to do that now.

Oh well, better safe than sorry -- but where is the dash of common sense?

They are interviewing supervisors of this evacuation in Corozal on the
radio as I type. They are hyper ventilating from an obvious
"adrenalin-high". "THE WATER IS COMING 12 FT HIGH AND WE HAVE TO EVACUATE
-- Right AWAY!!!"

They are announcing for all police to meet at the Hospital in Santa Rita. I
imagine this is to be a rather complete evacuation. If it keeps raining
like this -- many very wet and miserable people tonight. With little chance
of drying.

Better safe than sorry -- true -- but so many folk tales -- of all cultures
-- have a "Cry-Wolf" story that also applies to such a situation as this.

That being -- Go into an emergency reaction, adrenalin high, to often on
false alarms -- you lose all ability to react properly to any real one that
may come.

Do we have anyone on this list that can tell us what is going on in Belize
City??

It is now 6:38 PM -- the rain has stopped and it is "quite" out their -- I
can hear the frogs singing. Step out side -- little breeze -- that is why.

Maybe the edge has moved past us??

Hmmm -- wonder how long this will last?
