Does anyone know how things are at Caribe Island Resort? We're hoping no news is good news. I haven't seen them mentioned on this message board, and they haven't answered our e-mails (assume because they can't yet). We have a big family reunion -- Seattle, Alaska, the Netherlands -- planned there early in y2001 to dive, fish and generally reunite. I've been to the Yucatan several times but this is the first Belize trip for any of us. After reading this message board for the past 10 days and getting a glimpse of the kind of people who hang out on A.C., we have absolutely no desire to go anywhere else. Any news of Caribe island would be very welcome.

They said
that they will be open in two weeks, received minimal damage. They are
waiting for water to be hooked up and will have a generator next week to
provide electricity.

Ditto what Marty (sexy body) said. They are on the list to reopen as soon as utilities are restored. By 2001 I would imagine everything to be just about back to normal and I predict that you will have a great vacation--you better Belize it!!!

I too will be at Caribe Island resort early in 2001. I have no direct knowledge of the how CI resort fared during H Keith, but I have been there before. The buildings, unlike many on the caye[pronounced 'key']are sturdy masonry. As a gambling man, I'd wager the ranch that you'll have no problems, and will be receiving your complimentary rum punch from Albert within minutes of checking in to be followed in rapid succession same, chased with copious Belikan Stouts. The resort is not quite walking or stumbling distance to town, but taxis are readily available.

This is great news. We have 10-15 family members involved in this journey, so we're super-glad Caribe Island Resort and A.C. are making it through. Many thanks to you for replying so quick. Marty and Orionhunter, you two are everywhere. Marty, have you gotten caught up on sleep yet? And to Big Frank, thanks for the heads-up on Belikan Stout (and Jerry Jeff, whom I like a lot and once interviewed years ago in my newspaper days). We get pretty spoiled on microbrews up here in Seattle, and good dark beer isn't easy to find in warm, sunny places. Should I assume you folks regard Belikan as several cuts above Red Stripe?

My husband total agrees with you guys regarding American beer. We live here in Oregon and I do actually believe that he will start to go through Hammerhead (a microbrew made by McMenamins) withdrawls while in AC. You know about McMenamins brew don't ya SteveB?
