Wondering if anyone has info on getting a Belizean drivers license.

I had to give my Home country one up and need an international one now, not from my home country.

Any thoughts or comments that may help?

I asked about international licences while at traffic last week, was told you now need to be a Belize citizen to get one. Something about they used to allow residents but have stopped that.

Tried renting a car with a San Pedro driver's license outside of Belize? Would like to know if it works.

Anyone know if you can drive in Canada and the US with a Belize license?

Should point out that I'm talking about San Pedro issued licenses that are home made looking laminates not the ones issued in the city.

You should see the ones made here in PG! When I renewed this year I brought a new pic, but they cut the old one out of my old license and put it in the new one. Icould have done a better job at home!

I rent cars in the US and Canada with my San Pedro license and have never had a problem. My license (the past 3 years) even had me marked as Male. (I'm female, by the way) I was even pulled over by the Austin TX Police a couple months ago, and he never even commented on my license. (Although I think I saw a snicker)
I usually rent from Hertz, Avis, and Thrifty.

Two months after I got my Belize drivers license I was renting a car in California. I presented my Belize drivers license and the woman laughed and asked if I had made it myself. I laughed and said no. Then she noticed it had expired and I said it couldn't have; I had just gotten it. She showed it to me.
Thank goodness my California license was still good.
When I got back to San Pedro I went into the traffic and asked "WHY?" They explained that it ALWAYS expires on your birthday following the date of issue. Who would have ever thought of that?
I'm biting my tongue to not make further snide remarks and reminding myself that I love living here.
