My finance and I have scheduled our honeymoon on Ambergris Caye at Ramon's Village from January 3 - 10 of 2001. I am wondering if it is a good idea for us to go. We are really looking forward to it, but we don't want to be in the way of clean up or diminish any supplies due to the hurricane. Please let us know what you think. Any information would be helpful. Thanks, Christy and Joe

I think that it will be ok by January. I am sure your tourist dollars will greatly be appreciated! I am still under the impression that by then it might actually be cleaned up ~ but still some families will be displaced. So for those visiting~ You can actually help by just being tourist~ If I might recommend~ If you go diving~ There is a diver named Patrick who is really great( The island is small~ all locals know him, can't think of his last name)! I really enjoyed it when he showed me and my husband the reef. He has a wife named Christina and they have 2 children and one on the way~ unless the one on the way was already born. Any way I know he is an excellent diver and he is an example how your tourist dollar can help~ If you hire him for a dive ~ It means he is working!

They are not going to open until November 13th, so I would say it is about a week too soon. http://www.ramons.com/index.htm

We were scheduled for Ramon's from the 18th of Nov to 26th. Ramons said they should be running at 1/2 capacity by then but construction would be going on. I asked if that construction was paint brushes or jack hammers. All they said was they had a lot of damage and that they would be working around the clock if necessary. @$125 a night I don't want floodlights on and nails being pounded while trying to get romantic. I am going to Cozumel instead(try getting reasonable rates anywhere else for turkey week.)I am definately going to return to A/C and will probably stay @ Ramones, but I am going to wait until next year. if anyone is going in December you should be just fine. You might be o.K. in November, especially some other hotel. Good luck all and see ya next time for sure.
