Lady friend and I are vacationing in Dec at Sunbreeze. Diving every day. She is a trooper, but gets sea-sick easy. Planning on 2 day trips to outer reef, Blue Hole, etc.

Any suggestions on dive operations with most comfortable boats for her. Fast vs slow, large vs small boats. Dramamine (sp?) and diving don't mix, so any other ideas?

Also, water temps? I know the Blue Hole at depth is cooler. How about other sites. 2/1 mil shorty, 3/2 mil full, "none at all" (she wants to join the "sandy bottom club."

Thanks

Be Well!

The ear patches behind the ear work fantastic for sea sickness. Can't remember the name of them. My son snorkeled with them and they stay on even when wet. He didn't get fall asleep sleepy, but was not as energetic either. My doctor dives and she uses them all the time. Ask your doctor. Also, the scuba magazines out are a wealth of information.
As for alternatives.....I hear ginger is great for nausea. Ginger ale, ginger snap cookies etc.
It was my experience that the water did not have very big swells. I didn't go as far as the blue hole, but the diving just out near the reef was good, and it was only a three minute boat ride. Your companion would do just fine there.

for most of the dives in the atolls i use just a skin or nothing at all. the blue hole does get a bit chilly sometimes around 115 and deeper. i used a 1 mil for that and was very comfortable. you will have to do some homework about the dive boats, email the shops to see what is available.
there are two ways out to the atolls, a fast rough (sometimes) way, and a nice leisurely ride in protected water that take and hour or so longer. there again check with the operator to find out the route they take.

have fun-the diving is awesome

No problem ScubaDoc, why don't you email me direct at [email protected] My webpage is temporarily down right now. I will be able to answer all of your questions and maybe we can work out a trade. My back and neck could really use an adjustment!!!!!
Hope to hear from you.

Dawn
PS: the diving was great today!!!!

I found the behind-the -ear patch doesn't work for me or mine, but might for others.

Ginger-ale is wonderful for seasickness...
put some in a thermos and take it along, as it works even after it goes flat.

You both will have a great time! [Linked Image]

Doc,
Our group of companions and divers (sans me) used the Blue Dive Center 3 times this year. When Chris owned it (April) he had some prescription dramamine that you would take small amounts for a couple days and it worked great. He said that many people try to dose up hours prior to the dive and that causes some problems with the medication and reactions. I'm sure that he is not alone in San Pedro offering that solution, or using that approach.

I just know that no one came back sick to ruin my perfectly enjoyable day doing nothing while they blew bubbles. They were outside the reef in some pretty big swells (6' plus). I was in a hammock.

I've dived with Triptone several times and it worked fine. No seasickness, no drowsiness, no problem.
