I like to paint and do some small crafty type things, and have had a few people approach me as to buying them. I am wondering, am I allowed to sell my art in other people's galleries? Do I need to have a different work permit? Business license? If so, it wouldn't be worth the hassle, but I also don't want to do anything to jeopardize what we have here, just to sell a couple of trinkets or paintings.

I have been looking around on the internet, asking a few people, but thought that this would probably be the place to find the most knowlegable people.

Any advice or thoughts? Please PM me!

Good question. There are quite a few activities that can operate easily under the radar. This appears to be one of them.

There are a lot of complicated ways to go about such a task....

it is illegal if no work permit -read what is stamped in your passport-if you have residency-no problem-if you have any type pof work permit -it is not frowned upon but not legal either

O.K. there's a loophole. If the items are made in another country, and declared when you enter Belize, and the customs duty paid on the wholesale cost of materials (show receipts) or fair wholesale value, then you are considered a "Trader" and do not need a work permit. You can not sell to the public directly, like setting up a table on the beach, however, you can sell to the local gift shops. If you're making the paintings or crafts while living in Belize, you're considered "working" and need a permit. Most people don't care, however if you [#%!] someone off, they can have you deported, and I personally know of a case where an artist was deported for "working" in Belize.
