My husband and I along with our 17 year old daughter will be spending Spring Break 2001 at the Tropica Beach Resort on AC. We own wetsuits and snorkel gear but not diving gear. Is it safe to rent from the local dive shop on AC? Our travel agent advised us to rent gear in Colorado. Thanks for the input.

Your travel agent told you to rent gear in Colorado????.....pack it up????....drag it all the way down here????

Hmmmmmmm?
Obviously this travel agent has never been to Ambergris Caye.

Diving equipment is safe to rent here....and you shouldn't need that wet suit unless you are prone to getting cold.

I personally just wear a swimsuit and shorts, but a lot of people like a lightweight skin suit.
Nothing heavy is required.....it's the tropics.

Rented diving equipment in SP for years with zero problems. Then SWMBO decided that she would risk our long term financial stabilty by demanding her own, so now we have to haul it down.

Maybe the travel agent has an interest in a dive shop.

No way drag that stuff down. We have great luck with renting equipment in San Pedro, usually get newer equipment in San Pedro than what our dive shops here rent out...

I feel sometimes agents and us diveshop owners just down right lie to get you to rent from them or get a commission on your rentals. they must know if they know anything about the island that dozens of dive shops rent quality eq. there is another side to the coin , the typical rental for a regular is 8.oo a day and anothe 8.00 for the bc so... if you dive 6 days thats hum lets see.....96.00 us,each aprox. 200. if you buy your own you will spend a min. of 600.00 us each .hummmm

Well, we HAVE our own equipment but never drag it with us to AC. We only use it for places close to us. Too much trouble to take and will break your back adding that to other luggage. Feel safe to rent it once you are there. [Linked Image]

FYI:
I take my own equipment with me everywhere, that's just my thing. But if you don't own your own, and aren't a nit-pick, the better San Pedro dive shops/tour operators all have currently available, well maintained equipment. They are extremely knowledgeable about the reef and aquatic life, and I have taken several great dives down there with no problems with air, tanks, or straying divemasters...

Equipment down here is fine. You usually get brands like Mares, Scubapro etc. Reg/bcd usually go for around $7US each per day. Weights and tanks are included with your dives. If you need to set up any dives let me know. Email me at [email protected] and we can set that up for you.
