Members of the San Pedro Community,
Some of you may have noticed the construction around the library that has been going on for the last few months. On behalf of the San Pedro Public Library Board, Committee and Staff, we would like to update you all on our renovation project, our future plans, and thank the public officials who made it happen.
The BTB has rented out upstairs and given our building an incredible facelift. Included in the renovation are an expanded space downstairs and an update of the facility. We have widened floor space, created study cubbies, and developed and separate computer area.
We plan to make good use of our space. Accordingly, we will continue and expand our children’s library, summer arts program, and young adult research section. We also plan to further integrate the latest technologies in to our library service. We have realized that it is smarter, cheaper, and easier to bring information to San Pedro students via the Internet rather than only through books. We also will be trying to bring in to the library any texts that home schooling students can donate so we will have a big enough collection that students would be able to start work on their studies without having to deal with the tedious process of getting the books here. We have more plans for future improvements and will keep you informed of them as they progress.
We need to express our heart felt thanks to both Area Rep. Heredia and Deputy Mayor Alamilla. Mr. Heredia has led the way on this project and throughout has shown his commitment to the library. Because of his vision, we now will be able to take a giant next step in providing the vital library service to San Pedro. Mr. Alamilla has proved to be a worthy facilitator in those inevitable glitches in any process. Thanks to you both for your vision and commitment, and oh yes, patience with our sometimes rambunctious board.
Thank you San Pedro for your commitment to education and reading.
