just got back from town, went to the new store on front street and found US brand lunch meat frozen!! and expired on Sept 10. Those lunch meats actually say "do not freeze" Yuck, frozen! can't imagine unthawed.

It says: "do not freeze'? I wonder why. I froze many different kinds of meat, cold cuts, sausage, etc. and they were fine and tasty after thawing them. I'd move that if the meat can't/should not be frozen it shouldn't probably be eaten after or before freezing it...

I doubt there are any health reasons that would prohibit freezing, but the quality will suffer. Processed lunchmeat has a high water content and freezing it changes the consistency in a pretty major way - When thawed it's kind of slimey and the texture is weird.

I can never remember which is better . . . safe? . . . or sorry?

I suspected just as much. Personally I'm really weary buying any meat products that need to be kept cool/frozen period. Too many chances for an incompetent worker leaving them sitting in the sun for a while while he had something more important to do. Same goes for dairy products.

I thought about the supermarket taking exp. date off .Its best that I try to talk with them. No use going around the barn. If they don't stop, who would really shop there. Really think they will do the right thing, word of mouth is a killer. Also they can use their own expired products or put on them on sale! I am willing to bet a burrito, I can convince them to do the right thing. It wouldn't be the first one I lost, sure cuts out the B.S.

Recado comes in red or black. Black Recado is used for the "black soup", Chilimole?...the Red Recado is used as the primary spice for the national dish, Red beans and Rice with stewed chicken.
