from a friend....
My American Dream died with my husband 6 years ago. Since Summer 2006, I have been working toward the Belizean Dream. This is what I learned with the Cooper Family in Belize:

1. Job that lasts longer than tourist season.

2. Affordable college for all students.

3. Care for handicapped children, while parents work.

4. Transportation and enough fuel to drive throughout country.

5. Being granted a visa to visit other countries.

6. Winning Boledo and/or Lottery

7. Enough land for family house and small homes for other family members.

8. Enough land to plant and raise own food. Independence

9. A good working government with focus on it's citizens.

10. Affordable education in growing year of children.

11. Safe streets without fear of robbery or murder.

Wait a minute, that sounds like the American Dream too. The difference is that Belize is still a newly independent country and can still make early changes to better their lives. Desire to make their country better for it's own citizens is the most likable aspect in Belize.

Just my opinion.

Yes, it's the dream of everyone everywhere I would imagine.

But I think Belize is better off with democracy, and it's attendent flaws.

The form of government that promises all those things has been a tragic failure every time it has been tried, or rather been imposed.

Utopia is for fiction writers, not the real world.

I hope that someday we can put aside our fears and prejudices and just laugh at people.

Most items on the list are attained by most Belizeans, especially on the mainland. The dream is realistic, more like goals with a deadline.
