There is now a new weekly through bus service from Belize City to San Pedro
Sula, Honduras. Since Spirit Air has some cheap flights to SPS from
the U.S., this might be an option for some thrifty travelers. It is
still cheaper and a bit faster, though, to go through Cancun.

Express Bus between Belize City and San Pedro Sula
Departs from Mundo Maya Travel, North Front Street, Belize City on
Saturdays at 6:00 am.
Arrives at San Pedro Sula at 6:00 pm.
Returns from San Pedro Sula on Tuesdays.
Cost: US$60 one way.

Tickets must be purchased from Mundo Maya Travel, next door to the
Water Taxi Terminal on North Front Street near the Swing Bridge.

Yeah, me too E, since the line comes up "Bus Service from Belize City to San Pedro....reminds me of a couple girls who stayed with us two years ago...they insisted they didn't want the flight over, but would just take the bus from Belize City. It took me six emails to convince them that it was not possible!!!

The word is that ADO is soon going to begin direct service from Merida to Belize City. Details aren't available yet, but I'm assuming there will also be service from Cancun/Playa and Chetumal.

This is good news for travelers, as the ADO first-class and GL buses are nicer and better run than any of the Belize buses. It would also eliminate the need to change bus lines en route.

Wade, yes, it took me six emails to convince them that they could not ride the bus from Belmopan to Belize City to San Pedro. And to think I thought the "island" word would give them the clue!

On my second trip to Belice we dove Turneffe Atoll. We pulled into Cockroach Island for lunch and the wonderful Lindsay Miller was our host. When I spotted the windmill behind his place I asked him if there was water down there. The look he gave me as he said "What do you think - this is an island!" Well - geeze - I meant fresh water. LOL

I heard you can now fly Tropic Air from Savannah airstrip (near Placencia) to Sn Pedro Sula for only about $130 or so... I would definitely choose the flight...
