Does anyone have a number or email address for the rum shop or other supplier? I have a friend who is interested.

Thanks,

Renee

Big Mike is correct, caveat emptor. The esplendido is one of the most counterfeited cigars in the world. Seems like the going rate for a box is over $500 usd even in Cuba. By the way, they sell in boxes of 25. Even in Cuba the chance of getting a fake is huge unless they are purchased in a factory or state store. The fakes could be cuban tobacco but could be from lesser quality plants or even trimmings off the floor of the factory. There are a number of online resources that help in spotting a fake. One of the biggest giveaways is the lack of consistency in the cigar wrapper in the individual cigars in the box. The wrappers should be of consistent color and texture and pretty much free from veins and other irregularities.

Good info. Pretty tough criteria to determine the fakes. Probably why they thrive. I guess if you aren't used to smoking them, you may not know. Can we assume this Rum shop has the real ones?

Not if they are selling them for 550 bz per box. I certainly would not say they are trying to mislead anyone as they really are good people; however, they could have been sold fakes themselves. At the end of the day, it is whatever makes you happy. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all!!

If you do score some authentic Cuban cigars, match it up with the Havana Club Rum which is available at most grocery stores. Good stuff.

I was not referring to them, I was referring to your comments on the criteria for determining fake vs authentic. I will be giving them my business. I really didn't think you were referring to them, were you? I thought you meant in general terms it's a problem.
