I have fished parts of Belize in the past but have never been to AC. My question is; are there flats around AC that someone can wade and have good fishing for bones and permit? I usually hire a guide to obtain the local knowledge but am looking at an extended trip. I prefer wading over fishing from a boat; no good reason why, just do. Any information would be great!!!

There are many places around AC that you can get out and wade, but virtually all of them require a boat to get to. For bonefish and permit, Cangrejo Shoals is a good place, as is the area behind Blackadore Caye and northward in San Pedro Lagoon. They're all short boat rides.

Dr. Sal,
thanks for the reply. I recognized your name from the maps section. Your map is a good reference and I appreciate its availability.

Related question...are there any reefs close enough off the island to swim to, or do you need to use a boat to get to all the good snorkelling spots?

From San Pedro Town there are no reefs or patch reefs close enough to swim to. If you're up at Robles Point (which requires a boat to get to, then you can easily swim out to the reef, with is just a few hundred feet offshore of the beach). In town, swimming out to the reef is very dangerous because it's kinda far, and you're in the boat lanes all the way.

Thanks so much! Kind of what I expected, but figured I could ask...
