I'm sure even the air fare to Belize is more than that.

I'm sure it is right now. A property owner in Independence, who has made 30-some trips to Belize, said she just had to pay US$900 from Florida to Belize, highest ever.

Ridiculous, given that it's less than 900 air miles -- that's US$1 a mile.

Hopefully, fares will fall soon.

Or that Spirit Air will start flying to Belize.

Maybe the BTB should just declare Cancun International Airport the "Official Airport of Belize," set up luxury shuttle buses to meet all arrivals (complete with complimentary drinks and Belize music videos) and transport them to Belize??

I´ve stopped even checking prices for Belize and only check Cancun these days. Right now the dollar is VERY strong in Mexico, almost 14 pesos to $1 U.S. We are getting 6.4 pesos to the Belize dollar now too. Somehow this has to turn into more tourist dollars for Mexico.

I see in the Wall Street Journal online today that the peso is now at 14.2 to the U.S. dollar (interbank rate). That means the dollar has climbed some 40% against the peso since the middle of last year, when the peso was around 10 to the dollar.

If it weren't for all that pesky bad PR about drug gangs, murders and kidnapping, Mexico should be doing a gangbuster tourism business.
