I'm already back, and I still see discussion about the mosquitoes. Here's our experience. We tried the baby oil trick for the no-see-ums. It worked well for no-see-ums, but not mosquitoes. Tried the "Ultr-thon" as advised on this forum. It worked perfectly for all biting insects. The only time I was bitten, was when I had no repellent on. It's a tricky thing. When you have the ocean breeze, no bugs. Usually, days were fine. But, shortly after 5:00 p.m., the critters came out in full force. Interestingly, there were no mosquitoes at all on our Lamanai tour. Our guide said the flooding killed them all. Also, we stayed at Captain Morgan's and were treated wonderfully. The staff knew our names after the first introduction. We had excellent food. Electricity was back with no glitches, we had air conditioning when needed, and my son swam in the pool whenever he could. We did the Hol Chan, Mexico Rocks, and Lamanai tour. The guides were great with my kids (10, 11, 15). Everyone was working hard to restore the island, but were friendly and welcoming. We can't wait to go back!

Skeeters are worst in Sept, Oct and Nov. Go any other time and it's clear for the most part. Not any better or worse than any other Caribbean island.

Is that the same for Noseeums = Sandflies
Are they also seasonable? Sept/Oct/Nov.? When you guys talk about Noseeums do you mean the tiny type you can barly see but bite like crazy or the large Fly type that bites but you can see them coming? We experience the tiny flying teeth on Roatan at West Bay Beach first week of Sept. It was very bad and I would like to stay away from those.

We had no NoSeeUms before the hurricane. They are not the same as sand flies, which look like gnats. They are about half the size of the head of a pin. They only come out from 5:30-6:30pm, the sunset hour. Close your windows or use repellent and you'll be fine.

You might want to mention the names of your guides for the various trips so that others can have the same positive experiences!
Thanks

Thanks for letting me know LB! I feel much better now. Do you know if there are Noseeums
around Half Moon Caye?
