I'm already back, and I still see discussion about the mosquitoes. Here's our experience. We tried the baby oil trick for the no-see-ums. It worked well for no-see-ums, but not mosquitoes. Tried the "Ultr-thon" as advised on this forum. It worked perfectly for all biting insects. The only time I was bitten, was when I had no repellent on. It's a tricky thing. When you have the ocean breeze, no bugs. Usually, days were fine. But, shortly after 5:00 p.m., the critters came out in full force. Interestingly, there were no mosquitoes at all on our Lamanai tour. Our guide said the flooding killed them all. Also, we stayed at Captain Morgan's and were treated wonderfully. The staff knew our names after the first introduction. We had excellent food. Electricity was back with no glitches, we had air conditioning when needed, and my son swam in the pool whenever he could. We did the Hol Chan, Mexico Rocks, and Lamanai tour. The guides were great with my kids (10, 11, 15). Everyone was working hard to restore the island, but were friendly and welcoming. We can't wait to go back!
