A brand new addition to the Belmopan Bus Terminal was this afternoon inaugurated in the nation’s capital, Belmopan.
The upgraded and improved facilities represent an almost fifty percent expansion to the existing building and now serve as a spacious and comfortable area that will significantly alleviate the congestion that had been experienced up to this morning.
According to Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Public Utilities, Transport, NEMO and Communications, Ret. Lt. Col. George Lovell, the general public using the new facilities at the Belmopan bus terminal will immediately see and feel a big difference.
Passengers will now be able to sit or wait in specific areas for specific destinations, making boarding at the designed gate much faster and smother; the sitting areas are now wider and more comfortable, as well as additional gates have been enabled for the faster and smoother boarding of passengers. Monitors will be shortly installed where passengers can, at a glance, tell at what time a specific bus for whichever destination will arrive. Information booths will be set up to help Belizeans and visitors alike on all aspects of the transportation system and a ticketing system will be put in place by which no more tickets than passengers will be sold, thus eliminating overcrowding.
Cutting the ribbon for the official inauguration of the expanded facilities were His Worship the Mayor of Belmopan City Simeon Lopez, CEO George Lovell and Chief Transport Officer, Ms. Candelaria Saldivar.
