I just got back from the most wonderful 2 weeks in SP - back to the cold, rain and gloom of London unfortuately. But the highlight of my trip there was my first ever sighting of dolphins just offshore, early morning as we left for a trip to Lamanai about 5 minutes out from Sea-rious Adventures' [CONGRATULATIONS TO SANDY ON THE BIRTH OF HER BABY BOY!] pier. They were making out (apparently its the mating season) and I was sooooooo amazed to see them I forgot to get my camera out until it was too late! It was fantastic to see them, it was the icing on the SP cake!
Wish I was still there..... saving my dollars and counting!

I'm here this week on the Outer Banks of North Carolina (another outpost of paradise, along with Belize) and today I saw something I've never seen before ... dolphins SURFING!

Here on Hatteras Island you see dolphins swimming by several times a day, but I had never realized before that they actually ride waves in. I was on the beach and the dolphins (the ones here are South Atlantic Bottlenose) and three of them came in on a single wave. The wave was fairly high and translucent, and you could see them just riding in, almost hanging 10. Funny and terrific.

That's fantastic! I'll be on the outer banks for New Years! I'll have to keep an eye out! I saw them last year, but they weren't surfing.

If no one believes Lan that the dolphins do surf - I can back him up! We live on Anna Maria Island, FL (Sarasota) and they love to surf the waves! It is an awsome sight! Everyone who sees dolphins up close needs to hold that memory close to heart - fortunately they are making a real comeback here but there was a time everyone was concerned they were dying off. We see dolphins every day but we still can't wait to see them in Belize when we come! The water visibility here is only about 20 feet, not too bad compared to other parts of Fl. but Belize is so much better!
