The Police Department wishes to inform the public of Statutory Instruments # 32, #33 and #35 of 2009. The recently amended regulations for the Belize City and Town Councils, regulation 146, relating to the restrictions on the sale of intoxicating liquor on election day, changes from "the hour appointed for the closing of the poll" to "the completion of counting of ballot papers".

The fine has been increased from "two hundred fifty dollars or by imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months", has now been changed to "a fine not exceeding two thousand dollars".

With the exception of policemen, soldiers and authorized public officers on official duties, it is now prohibited to carry firearms on polling day. It (SI#35 of 2009) states: "�no person shall carry, discharge or use any firearm or ammunition in any public place within one hundred yards�between the hours of the opening of the polling day and the completion of the counting of ballot papers".
