We are planning a trip in mid March for 8 days and thinking of spending 4 days in Cayo and 4 days either in Placenia or Amergris Caye. We are thinking about Crystal Paradise Lodge and/or Blancaneaux for Cayo and Kitty's
Place for Placencia. We are not divers and are mainly interested in a good beach, a small house or cabana in a location that has some local charm/character, ie. not a resort.any info would be much appreciated!

I'm a little confused by your questions. Blancaneaux and Crystal Paradise are two totally different experiences, especially in price. Most people who are thinking of one probably wouldn't consider the other. Both are very good choices but in quite different categories.

In Placencia, Kitty's does have three cabanas and it does have local character, but it is a (small) resort, not a house ... although Kitty manages a few houses in Placencia for the owners.

For half what you would pay at Blancanaux, you could stay at 5 Sisters, which is Belizean owned and on a much prettier site than Blancaneaux. The views are incredible, and what the owner has been able to do using natural energy sources is quite amazing. The food is fabulous.
It doesn't get the marketing play because its owned by a Belizean working stiff instead of an American movie director...
