How DO you pronounce Ambergris? the dictionary says:
am·ber·gris [ámbr gris , ámbr grees ]
Somewhere on an Ambergris web site, I read that it was am-BUR-gris with the emphasis on BUR. I have heard people not say the final "s". I know, I know after I have a couple of those Belikens I keep reading about, I won't care how it is said. But right now ,sitting in the cold and snow, I want to tell people where I am going next week. Thanks.

I think we went through this a while back...just tell them you're going to "A Hellva of a Lot of Fun Caye". That would be a reasonably accurate pronunciation of Ambergirs Caye. (It is appropiate to use either "official" pronouncements. No one will care)

Actually it's the part of whale excrement that was used in perfume.

I've had people swear to two pronunciations:
Am-BUR-gris or Am-BUR-grease Key

As I sometimes say in one of my 'True Stories' songs,"It's like Hambergers without the "H". Maybe that's why they chose us for Temp Island. Raw meat! ...or cooked depending on how much sun you got.
