Hi everyone,

I have read a lot of the posted info from previous messages and they have been SOOOO helpful [Linked Image] I wanted to ask if there was a big difference between the Lamanai and Altun Ha trip. I have read different opinions about each. Lamanai I heard was amazing but quite long. I'm leaning towards Lamanai with Daniel at Tanisha. He also does an Altun Ha and Baboon Sanctuary tour that I didn't see offered by other operators. If that doesn't work out then I'll look into Seaduced or Searious. We will be in AC for 8 days in 2 weeks and can't wait! Suggestions? I am also thinking of doing the Caye Caulker trip and beach BBQ. Is there anything else that is a must do for a first timer that I overlooked???

Jen

I have personally taken the Lamainai tour with Tanashi and without hesitation would recommend it. US$125 if I remember correctly. While it is a 7A to 7P, lunch and light snacks are included, and you will have plenty of Belikin for the return leg;-}

Try the Winnie Estelle for a slow cruise to 2 or 3 snorkel spots and 2-3 hours on Caye Caulker. Some people want more privacy, as the Winnie is an old trawler that comfortably carries maybe 2 dozen people, but I liked the mingling. If your group was large enough a smaller boat could be comparably priced. Snacks, and adult beverages are free on the boat, as is snorkle equip.

Take your honey above the cut by cart or bike, or better still water taxi, to Caoricorn for lunch or dinner. A little spendy, but still a good value. If you're on a budget go to The Palapa about 1 mile North of the cut.

The Palapa is virtually required...if you can't relax there you would be hopeless. Try it after lunch at Sweet Basils (closed Mon.) on the cart path north of the cut about 1/4 from the grassy turnoff towards the reef to the Palapa.

BC's for Sunday BBQ (11 am to 3 pm).

The Patio for lobster, season permitting, the Hideaway or Estels for breakfast, etc. Cannibals for breakfast or lunch, Jambels Jerk Pit, and so forth.

CC

Have a great time and don't drink any adult beverages with a "Tidy Bowl" color in any of these places unless you want to risk becoming an island derelict. Oh hell, go ahead.

Thanks! I have gotten a lot of great suggestions on here so far so hopefully I will make some good choices [Linked Image]How far away is the Palapa? We are staying at Coral Bay. I don't mind walking/biking if it isn't too far away or do I need to take a water taxi?

Just unlock the bikes at the back of Coral Bay and head north. At the north end of Front Street cross over to Middle and keep going to the hand ferry. Sweet Basils is about 1/2 mi on your left and the Palapa about 1/4 mi. further on your right, down the path.

You can easily walk to virtually anything from where you are. You can walk up the beach to Estels in 15 minutes or so, unless you get "distracted' along the way.

Jen,

It is, for all practical purposes, so small that the "map" will be in your head in the first day or so. Read the list of restaurants on the refrigerator in your unit at CBV for a good start on dining. The Patio is less than 100 yards away and is very good.

After you have walked the beach once, and Front and Middle Streets you'll catch on very quick. (Note: You can only see BC's from the water side, just past the Sunbreeze..) Have fun and say "Hi" for us.

Jen,
We'll be at Coral Bay Feb.3-10. Don't know if that hits your dates or not but would be glad to point you in the right direction for places to eat and things to do. We own one of the units there and get down to AC fairly often (but never often enough). If you're there on different dates, Herm and Linda (managers) will be glad to do the same. You'll love AC. Hope to see you there.
