The NEMO warning to seek "higher ground" in our case means that if you
can safely do so, get away from the water's edge and go upstairs.
Apparently the warning was quickly posted on the radio, but those of
us who slept through the quake did not know to turn on the radio.
The timeline from quake to potential landfall of a tidal wave would
have been about 30 minutes for this quake.
Please if you are aware of a general emergency, assume that your
neighbors need to be informed and call them to be sure they are
NEMO is having meetings this morning and if there is any further plan
they will let us know.
Placencia suffered some non-severe earthquake damage - a concrete
pier, the water tower. Some houses in Mango Creek fell down. Water
service was briefly disrupted in the villages near Placencia, and some
paved roads have cracked in the area.
Please note that in the event of an emergency, LOVE FM converts to all-
emergency broadcast. In our immediate area you can get LOVE FM at
98.1 - it is also available live-stream on the internet.
Will dust off some old Earthquake planning guides and see what
recommendations can be applied to our situation.
