The whole point of the article is to reassure people that there ISN'T much threat from a tsunami in Belize. The fault that caused this earthquake is the wrong type of fault to cause a large tsunami. As an ex-geologist (there are no seismologists in Belize, so I'm as well qualified as anyone else to comment), and having done the research to reassure ourselves, I thought it was important to publish this. I am finding from the searches strings done on SEs to find my blog that people are really worried in case of future waves, and honestly with no need!

There were no tsunami waves caused by this earthquake at all, despite some panic that there may be. The warning was taken off after about half an hour, but many people didn’t know it had been, so the panic continued. There is very little (but still some) risk of a tsunami from this fault.
