It would be great if someone (Lan?) would post a list of wheel chair accessible accommodations on Ambergris Caye. I just got another request and unfortunately, our condos are not WC accessible. The only reference I know of for sure is the Sunbreeze...is that the only WC accessible place in town? If there are others, please post info so that I will know where to refer others. I get these inquiries from time to time and would like to be able to help...

I'm not the right person to do that -- maybe Jesse Cope or someone like that could.

There are sure not many places on Ambergris Caye or in Belize for that matter that are handicap-accessible.

When I worked at Journey's End (5 years ago), there was a walkway and ramps built and some of the rooms were altered to make them wheel chair accessible. I assume they still are, but I'd check to make sure.

Suggest you contact Banana Beach resort with your requirements. I believe the ground floor suites are wheelchair accessible.

when i was at journeys end last summer, a parapelegic (sp?) was staying there too. many of the cabanas are on the ground level, but there are a few steps up to the restaraunt and office. the staff was very helpful to him, almost to the point of embarrassment, as it seemed he really tried to do everything as a walking person would, by himself. however, the "walkways" are made of sand. he was a real sport, but occasionally he had to be helped from place to place. and, in & out of the water taxis. san pedro isnt exactly wheelchair friendly as a whole, but mainly because it is made of sand.

Susangg, I sent for a brochure from the Palms about a week ago and it arrived today. As I was reading I saw that on the bottom it said handicap facilities. It doesnt give any details but at least now you can call them and for more information. I have a handicapped uncle and know how hard it can be in some places to find doorways large enough etc. I hope this will help.
