Having done a lot of research on the subject, I still can't decide which hotel to choose for a 4-5 night stay in AC at the beginning of July 2001. I am hoping that people here will be able to give me some tips.
I am looking for a place within walking distance to restaurants (and we don't mind walking a mile or two), with a freshwater pool, with spacious rooms and bathrooms (with a/c) and preferably breakfast available at the hotel. Our budget is around US$150-175 (including taxes etc.) per night for 2 adults and a 7 year old child. Since we will have two weeks, we are also planning to spend some time in other parts of Belize and our preliminary choices are Inn at Robert's Grove in Placencia/Seine Bight and Chaa Creek Lodge. Any comments as to these places and other recommendations are also welcome.

My recommendations would be Banana Beach or Villas at Banyan Bay. Both are condotels about 1 1/2 miles south of town. Both have pools, are on one of the best beaches on the island and have lovely suites -- Banyan Bay has two bedroom units with jacuzzis, Banana Beach has one-bedroom units. Banana Beach in the summer would be well under your budget limit, Banyan Bay about at it.

Banana Beach does not serve breakfast, but you can get a good moderately priced breakfast next door at Tropica or elsewhere within walking distance.

Both Inn at Robert's Grove and Chaa Creek are top notch -- you can't go wrong at those places.

Iza,

I think Banyan Bay would fit like a glove. Most of their "villas" are two bedroom which makes the 7 year old more comfortable. July is generally considered "low" season so some favorable rates may be available.

Try contacting the management of Banyan Bay direct. Many times there are discounts for booking direct. Several properties also give additional discounts if you mail a check to their US correspondent, thereby saving them the credit card points.

On the other hand I don't think anybody really knows what effect this "Temptation" thing is going to have on lodging and overall costs.
