I am always getting asked about the actual number of true hotels/resorts on the island vs timeshares and condo developments that rent out as "resorts"? Even when I lived on the island, places calling themselves "resorts" were really other types of developments. Does anyone know how many non-timeshare/condo complexes are actually on the island?
A number of condo/hotels are mixed type ownership where the developers sold of some of the units as condos, then put them back into the hotel operation under contract. The remaining units are still held by the developer/hotelier. A guest wouldn't necessarily be aware of all this.
