We had real, whole milk, pacakaged the same as the US, from San Pedro Market. It even had a week to go before expiration!

That being said, I was on vacation so I did not look at the price, which might have led me to say "they dont have real milk dear..."

The price for th carton milk is high, I agree. But....I have milk for my cereal, to drink, and for whatever else I need it. And quite frankly I like it. It is not whole milk from the dairy next door but it is certainly acceptable. Especially considering the alternative.

I am a milk drinker - many aren't - but I can't use the locally-produced (Mennonite) milk. Makes me feel ill. I use long life milk, generally either Rainbow from Holland or Lala from Mexico. Whichever is available. I actually prefer Lala "light" (reduced fat, but I don't know what %age) which now costs Bz$3.25 per litre carton.

I would/have gone without rather than try the box milk.... Just because... Well no good reason... Guess I will try it.

Gridguy we used to buy the other milk but to many times getting burned led us to thinking box milk is a perfectly fine thing for coffee and cereal.

Used to be with the other milk we could not always tell when it was off other than the first sip of our iced coffee - not a nice wake up.

Things to remember when buying milk. How good is the refrigerator of the vendor.Do you grab the one in front that gets warm from people opening and closing cooler. We grab the container way in the back. The milk is delivered a long route, they actually freeze it for trip( processor-truck-barge-truck-store).We only buy on the day or next delivered, you can tell because it will still be a bit frozen. The boxed milk is very good we always have on hand. You have choices, fortunately.
We remember being in the u.s. Virgin islands wondering if the chicken had thawed out, after a power outage (was it bad??).This is a picnic here in Belize.Friends tell me they still have the same problem with chicken and Milk. We are so lucky, life is good!

P.S. We all have had milk that was starting to go,nice trick. Freeze it, and get ready for a tall glass of milk.

I just did something I never thought I would do - made pudding with powdered milk. tacoboy said it tasted fine (I have not tried my experiment yet lol)

Amazing how the scope of things changes by living in another country.

I would have never even though to buy powdered milk in Canada but now I keep on hand for cooking and hurricane kit.
