Our Michigan-based Travel club just returned from 7 days at Journey's End from 2/5-2/12/01. The trip was a blast, but JE's had many problems, not yet resolved since Hurricane Keith. There were problems with water, toilets, showers, A/C, electricity ... not to mention shortages of food for the various meals. The staff was trying hart, but the place is not ready for guests yet !

All in all our trip was great, but stay away from Journey's End for a while.

Yes you were fortunate that you avoided Journey's End. We checked out Matachica and Victoria House while we were there and both were great ... but Journey's End was a disaster !

Have you talked to anyone in the Houston office about a refund? I know they'll fight you on it but it may be worth a try...

I sent a message to Johnathon in the Houston office but no reply yet. Pretty similar to the treatment that we got at the resort last week ! slow or no answer !

Hi - I have reservations at Journeys End for the first week in April - having second thoughts now. I heard that they were the best resort to go to if you you were into fly fishing? Was it that bad that I should look elsewhere? Help / Advise would be much appreciated! thx

It was horrible ! New staff who could care less, management who is quitting soon, shortages of food, damage from the hurricane, electrical and water outages daily ... need I go on !

Also, they charge double the San Pedro rate for tours and fishing !

Consider Victoria House, Mata Chica, Captain Morgans, or for that matter anyplace else ... dont let the web site and advertising fool you ... they are not ready for guests yet and it appears to me it will be quite a while !

I too looked into Journey's End and was quite impressed after looking at their website, until a little digging on altavista led me to this site:
http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/Cabana/7554/index.html

The site describes a couple's disastrous vacation there (with pictures and all!). I initially took it with a grain of salt and gave them the benefit of doubt because it was in 1998 shortly after hurricaine Mitch. I called and spoke with someone in their office in Houston who assured me that that was an isolated incident and that the resort is in much better condition now. However, after searching a couple years worth of posts on this board and the other one, I found corraborating evidence that there may be some issues at Journeys End. Enough issues that I wasn't going to take a blind chance there at the expense of our infrequent vacation.

I will be staying at Ramon's in May and it seems like the more I read on this board, the more satisfied I am about booking there. (besides the fact that it's a bit pricy-sometimes ya gotta live a little. Its still less expensive than a condo on the ocean on the Cape)

I think JE might want to take a hard look at their image and do some "clean-up"

Let me correct myself...the trip described in the above website was sometime in 1997, so it was before the hurricane. Maybe they've rebuilt since then...who knows. I'm going to make sure I get up there to check it out while I'm staying at Ramon's.

I am so glad I found this board - just at the right time too - I have to confirm everything tomorrow morning (here is hoping that I can find something else instead of JE). Live2Fish can you please give me the contact information for Elodia at Tanisha Tours - really would appreciate it (I am sorry that you had to experience those conditions on your vaca - I am sure you made the most of it though...)
