we have honestly not have had a big problem but at sunset you can get pretty bit. I always bring deep woods off or cutter. If you go to the travel section of the forum you will see a whole thread.

the wipes really work fine. i also bought 100% deet and poured some into cutter - worked great too.

bring benedryl CREAM in case you do get bit - takes the itch right out.

My understanding is that 100% Deet doesn't any better than the 30-40%, it just lasts longer. It also melts plastic, and takes off nail polish. Unless you're going to be out for extended periods, I'd start with the lower percent stuff.

I take one Vitamin B1 a day. Worked for me when I was there in January. From Placencia to Cayo to Caye Caulker. There was a lot of rain before we arrived and for a couple of day while in the country and I got a few bites only. B1 is also know as the happy vitamin so you are almost sure to have a great time.

you can also find natural or organic sprays in the States. My wife bought some the last time we visited the states and we use it here...it works really good too...and you could drink it if you had too.
