My wife and I are coming down to Ambergris next week.

I'm a new student of acoustic guitar, and I was hoping to practice a bit while I'm down there, and possibly even take a lesson or two.

Does anyone know a guitar teacher in Ambergris who teaches acoustic guitar?

I'm trying to figure out if its worth the hassle to bring my guitar with me or not.

Thanks!

did u check with your airline to make sure you get more than one bag? or get ANY free baggage? i have paid upwards of $15 per bag per direction.

it may be simple enuf decision if it means paying $30 or more round trip to bring it. also, have you seen the way luggage looks these days once you get home? mine are getting really beat up every trip - if you love your guitar as i once did - i'd consider leaving the baby home.

one year, LONG ago, someone there lent me a guitar for a week. or for the same $30 maybe someone can rent you one.

maybe a nice local can help you out, or knows someone who can.

just my thoughts...

If you're moving down, get hold of Dennis Wolfe, he may be able to steer you in the right direction for lessons. If you're just visiting then get yourself a copy of Guitar for Dummies and just noodle around, you'll be suprised how much you can teach yourself. I took a couple of lessons way back when and found I learned a lot more just practicing.

Maybe this will help make up your mind though (based on a true story):

Dennis hosts a Sunday Jam session at BC'S bar from 2:30 until 6:30, and it is really a fun time. He has taught so many of the island's musicians, you can hardly see a band that does not have someone who has come through Dennis. He doesn't use a class room to teach, it is all just playing with him to guide you, and you will learn more from him in a Sunday sit-in than you will in hours with a tutor. Last Sunday we had 2 drummers, 4 different guitar players and singers sit in all day and you would be welcome to join. Some can play exceptionally well, some are learners. If you have no fear, we have no shame, lol.
We always have an extra guitar, can't promise an acoustic, but we have something with strings :-) But I just had an Italia Bass sent down and it came perfectly intact. So did my beatle bass before.
Check out this website, this is Dennis Wolfe.
