Byron,
I read your trip report with interest. I've been looking for a really good fishing guide for my husband and I. We want to bone fish and reef fish. You mentioned a guy in your report named Louis. You didn't mention his last name... Do you remember it? The day fishing is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. With fishing in the morning, a lobster lunch on the beach and some snorkeling at Hol Chan. Unfortunately, I've noticed that there are several recommended fishing guides named Louis. Please wrack your brain and try to remember who he was so we can book him... Thanks!!!

Debbie, the trip you describe is routine for almost all of the local fishing/snorkel guides. This trip is, literally, the signature day trip for all SP guides. Any guide you select for this particular trip will provide you with a great experience.

Debbie!
There are a number of terrific guides in San Pedro. Unfortunately, there are one or two (possibly more) that must be avoided. I will not mention their names.

My favorite guide for reef fishing is Juan Alamilla - Phone 2009. A great guy with good boat with two motors. As much as I like Juan, I would use a guide with a smaller boat for bone fishing. Good bone fishing guides are mentioned elsewhere on this message board.

Other interesting stuff: We like the Winnie Estelle for a day snorkeling trip with a lunch stop at Caye Calker.

Short snorkeling trips to Shark Ray Alley and Hol Chan, use Daniel Nunez at Tanisha Eco Tours - phone 2314. Daniel is the ONLY person to use for a trip to Lamani. We learned the hard way. Again, Daniel is the only person to use for a trip to Lamani! He provides a great value!

Good luck!

Debbie:

I sent this a few min. ago but I may have made a mistake. If this is posted twice - y appolgy!

Louis's last name is Caliz and his phone #'s are 026-2257 and 026-5025.

As the other's have said this may be standard trip but Louis made it wonderful in the way we were treated.

If you should go with him say Hi and that Byron and Danny said Hi also. Danny is the one that actually went "reef" fishing. Caught the reef some many times he used most of Louis' hooks!

Have a great time and I really hope you enjoy

Byron

Thanks Byron. You're a doll. I printed this out and am giving it to my husband. We will file it and use it to book our fishing day. I'm SO looking forward to it. I didn't get to fish last year as my younger son gets sea sick. Had to stay back with him. [Linked Image]
