Most fans know Andrew Zimmern as the man with the stomach of steel on Bizarre Foods. Andrew enjoys exploring the fringes of culture, especially when it comes to food. He believes sharing a meal with locals, a family or a tribe grants the traveler a unique opportunity to better understand different people.
Andrew's exploration continues with his new show, Andrew Zimmern's Bizarre World, where he takes his passion for other cultures to the extreme. Andrew dives face-first into the most unusual and unexpected traditions from around the globe, traveling to Belize, Cuba, Kalahari, South Africa, Sulawesi, Bali, Germany, Florida and Wisconsin.
Andrew was in Belize in April and filmed for a week in different parts of Belize. Andrews’ Belizean adventure includes swimming with sharks and sting rays, explores the hidden underworld of the caves (Actun Tunichil Muknal) and sinks his teeth into Mayan-style pork brains and the country’s most prized rodent (Gibnut – Royal Rat).
Some places where Andrew visited included Rojo Lounge in Ambergris Caye, Poustinia Land Art Park in San Ignacio, Gales Point in Stann Creek District, and the Toledo District. Andrews interesting trip included a spiritual cleansing as well as witnessing of a fertility ceremony.
The show airs in 70 countries that will see the people of Belize and show what really makes Belize tick. Bizarre World’s premiered on September 1, with Andrew venturing into Cuba, which according to Zimmern, no other show has been able to do. Belize will be the second episode of Bizarre World, to be aired on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. Be sure to mark your calendars and tune into the Travel Channel on Channel 49 at 10:00 p.m. eastern time.
