Hello everyone...I will be making my first trip down to Belize Oct 24-30th - (AC stay). I'll be traveling with my cousin and I will be turning 30 soon! I have some quick questions for the forum and thanks in advance for the time...looking forward!

1. Golf Cart rental - We are staying at Captain Morgan's and I would like to know if it is a good idea to get a golf cart. I have heard mixed reviews from friends and family.

2. Food - love seafood and little "Hole in the wall"-type places. Any recommendations? Preferably places that accept American dollars.

3. Things to do - we plan on fishing and snokleing (no diving). Any other off-the-beaten-path suggestions?

4. Bars - this is crucial. Love a cold beer and a beach view. Also love places to just hang and chat with people.

We are two pretty adventurous dudes who really want to take advantage of our time.

Thanks for any recommendations!

Welcome. You're gonna have a great time. You probably will want a golf cart to get around and have more freedom, though it can be a bumpy ride up north. Everywhere accepts US Dollars, so don't worry about that. Some places that are off the beaten track so to say that I really like include Vern's, a small shack on your right as hit the south side of the bridge. Fantastic Garifuna food. El Fogon, which is West of the airport and under a palapa. Nearby is Neri's tacos, always yummy and very cheap. Also Antojitos, which is a couple miles south from Town and brilliant for dinner. Reef restaurant on Middle Street in town does some of the best seafood I've had here and of course the Papusa's, which are also on middle street and made on the street at night are fantastic. On Sunday, you can't beat Caroline's BBQ at Crazy Canucks (the live jam band is amazing too) and that is a mile or so south of town. Beach'n Kitchen is north of the bridge and you'll get some great food there. So that should get you started.

As for bars - as soon as you get off the plane - hit Lime. Just a great atmosphere with amazing staff and there is always something hilarious going on there. Otherwise, you just need to take a walk along the beach and hit them all as you go along. Wet Willies and Tacklebox, both on piers, have some wild nights and if you like Karaoke, don't miss Weds at Roadkill.

You're going to have SO much fun.

ps. snorkeling and fishing are easy to book, just don't take any cheap deals that you get offered by nice guys you meet on the beach. You'll get exactly what you paid for.

Don't forget BC's for drinks with many people to visit with, a beach view and bbq on Sundays.

One thing we really enjoyed on our last trip was renting bikes for an afternoon and just riding around most of the island. We had to see how far North we could go before the road got too scarey. We made it as far as Captain Morgan's.

For food, our favorite is Jambel's for a quick, delicious Jerk Chicken lunch.

Perfect! None of these places except Lime have been recommended so far and that is just what I wanted! Thanks again!

Restaurants: Carumba's (Middle St) has terrific Caribbean stewed chicken. It's not seafood, but you gotta try it! You'll find wonderful snapper and grouper at various places. I also second the Papusa's from the street vendor in town. I crave these when I'm in the U.S. Also a fun Mediterranean place Ali Baba (if I have the name right).

No trouble with US dollars, but DO bring small bills (1,5,10,20). Easy getting change into BZ dollars when you make purchases on the island. I usually convert some (for starter money) at the BZE airport before the Tropic Air flight. The teller is right after you pass thru customs.

Snorkeling is a blast with Alfonse Graniel. The catamaran sail (with SEAduced) to Caye Caulker with snorkel stops along the way is fantastic.

If you enjoy chatting with locals, ex-pats and tourists, you'll fit right in here!

must eat at Geoerge's kitchen. nice folks, good homey food. check out catamaran beach bar too, especially if they have a BBQ going. waruguma has the best ceviche (IMO) tho not necessarily the cheapest.

for tiny & local, we also liked Genie's (sp?) just up from the purple Super Buy Market. they didnt speak any english but were thrilled to feed us.

a day trip to tranquility bay is nice, rent a golf cart and explore, rent a sailboat for a snorkel & beach bbq, see the lamanai ruins, take a water taxi between 4-6 miles north and spend the day walking up & down on gorgeous beaches with lovely homes, bars & resorts (like portofino & rojo) go reef fishing for baracuda & snapper - more fun than it sounds. no shortage of things to do...or NOT to do. just staring at the reef with a cold beverage & good company is pretty darn nice too! smile

If you want to go fishing we had a great day with Tony and Roney. You can book them thru Shannon at Costa Maya Reef. We caught so many lobster and snapper...had a great bbq on the beach...Go to Waraguma on Middle Street for the best seafood burrito...huge seafood lobster, shrimp. Really tasty. We went there twice. The lobster ceviche was full of lobster, really really good. Sunset Grille has great food and you can feed the tarpon for $5.00 a bag...pretty funny to see these huge fish jump out of the water. Don't forget to go to the Chicken Drop on Wednesday at the Pier Lounge..alot of fun...sometimes at the end of the month they have a Sat or Sun drawing.

These are just simple things, so much to do in AC...wonderful place..the people are great. Wish we were there again!

You have to go night snorkeling with Lil Alfonse tours. I did not think that I would like being in the water after dark but it was by far the most fantastic thing we did. We went day snorkeling with him too but the night trip was just fantastic!!

1. Golf Cart rental - We are staying at Captain Morgan's and I would like to know if it is a good idea to get a golf cart. I have heard mixed reviews from friends and family.

Yes if you have plenty of money. No if you want to get some exercise and ride a bike or No if you have plenty of money and want to take the water taxi's into town.

2. Food - love seafood and little "Hole in the wall"-type places. Any recommendations? Preferably places that accept American dollars.

There all Hole-in-the-Walls. Just kidding there are several wonderful restaurants and your Hole-in-the-Wall kind of places.

3. Things to do - we plan on fishing and snorkeling (no diving). Any other off-the-beaten-path suggestions?

I promised my husband if I EVER saw a shark in the water that would be the last time I EVER got into the ocean. Last time I was there I stepped on a shark getting into the boat. If you could see me you would know why the shark gave me a dirty look. Twiggy I ain't. LOL

4. Bars - this is crucial. Love a cold beer and a beach view. Also love places to just hang and chat with people.

I'm not sure if there is a bar without a beach view. Oh yes! Pedor's. But you gotta go there anyway. And did I mention I do not like Pedro?
