Hey Rick and Cheri. I rapped at Casey yesterday about the benefit BBQ at his place. He said go for it. No problems having it at Palapa Bar. Do whatever you want. Timmy and I will play, as well as the usual suspects. The bar will open, and fun had by all!

Get your alcoholic beverages in place the day before. There is an absolute restriction to the sale of alcohol on Easter Sunday. San Pedro is patrolled by the police to ensure there are no sales. This is serious business.

As far as I know, we were there last easter and after the procession and after church, all places opened up... It is in the afternoon, but no problem to the north... We respect Easter as a holiday, but it is one of the most celebrated holidays there on the island.... So don't worry there will be enough Belekin to supply everyone...LOL.....Rick

The restaurants opened up but not liquor sales. I was there last Easter and could not even buy at the grocery store. There was a police officer at the cashier to ensure same.

True, the restaurants all opened up along with the stores but liquor sales were not allowed. There was even an increased police presence to ensure that. There were two officers at the store. While I had been made aware that I could not be served an alcholic drink at the restaurants and bars, I hadn't realized I wouldn't be able to buy it at the store either. So I wandered in grabbed a bottle and tried to purchase it. The owner had to explain that he could not sell it to me and the cop gave me the dirtiest look I'd seen in quite a while. I apologized, pleading ignorance. This episode was in the late afternoon.

It may not be cool to even bring your own - as i understand it the law refers to selling and/or consuming on licensed premises. At least, that's what the cop who came by my hotel a couple of years ago said.

This might put a bit of a kink in the celebration - maybe you could postpone it a couple of days.

this is purely in the interests of having a good time - i won't get down there 'til tuesday, and i purposely avoided the Easter weekend for just this reason! ;-)

cheers
sandy

Rick and Cheri, so what's the latest? Were you able to purchase and/or consume adult beverages on Easter Sunday this trip?
