Has anyone done the "manatee watch" snorkel day trip? I've seen it advertised on all the websites for $75, is it worth it? Do you actually see manatees? I know you can do a snorkel day trip for less than that but I would be willing to pay the extra if it's worth it.

From Caye Caulker, we went on a manatee tour that included Goff's Caye for $50BZ. Definitely worth going.

We took the tour a week ago. It was fun. Mostly could just see noses and tails. You are not allowed in the water. There were 24 people on the boat. We had a nice picnic on an adorable little island, but snorkeling was not good there. Everyone drank lots of rum and beer and we never went to any other snorkeling spots. We did stop by Caye Caulker for about an hour. I got sunburned really bad. We wished we had gone back to Shark Ray Alley instead.

GA peach is correct. You can not get in the water and swim with the manatees. They are an endangered species and the government has protected them. Masses of tourists in the water with them disturbs their mating. They are fun to watch though. The day tour was nice. We did the beach BBQ at Goff's Caye I believe. The snorkeling there was fantastic.
We got to see some large squid doing a mating dance. It was the most beautiful and graceful display I've ever witnessed.

We did the Manatee trip in Jan. We sat for 5 minutes, watched one come slowly up, stick up a couple of nostrils and take a breath, and slowly sink back down. 5 minutes later, it happened again. Wouldn't you know, 5 minutes later it actually happened again!
One of those things you have to do at least once. On the other hand, the snorkeling was good, lunch was good, saw a bunch of dolphins also. All in all, not a wasted trip.

Been there, done that, the washing machine ate the T-shirt
