Hi everyone, we are newbe's coming out of the Yukon in Canada. We are wondering if there are any budget hotels that could be recomended as being in a safe area of Belize City. The Belcove Hotel was recommended as a budget hotel ,we were wondering if its in a safe district. thanks to all. S@K :-)

The Belcove is right in the downtown area of the city. The hotel is probably safe, but I wouldn't walk around the area after sunset.

There are a couple of places out of the downtown area...

You could try the Bay View Guesthouse. It's in a safer neighbourhood.
Also Freddie's, but it's not as nice as the Bay View.
And a bit further outside the City, I've heard the D'Nest Inn is nice.

I still wouldn't go walking too far after sunset.

D'Nest Inn and Villa Boscardi are both a little out of Town but well liked.

We stayed last April at Hotel Mopan - was very reasonable - believe it cost us about $40.00 or maybe $50.00 per night - on Regent St - not far from the water taxi and swing bridge.

Front desk staff was very helpful on where to go and eat etc. Nice breakfast there in the morning.

We had no issues other than there was a power failure in the entire area so we were in the dark for a few hours - they brought out flashlights.

I'm late posting, but I can't recommend D'Nest Inn B&B too highly. Safe area (Belama), very nice rooms with A/C, cable TV and free Wi-Fi, delicious full breakfast included. The owners are charming and very helpful. Rates are around US$65-$75 double.

Reality is only an illusion that occurs due to a lack of alcohol
