Once you are living here you will have to apply for a permit and have it approved by the San Pedro Traffic commitee before you purchase or bring any type of vehicle to the Island, I understand that there is a moratorium in place to restrict the amount of vehicles being imported to San Pedro, I'm not saying it is impossible to recieve a permit but it will be tough. It may take some time.
Reality..What a concept!

You don't have to denounce your US citizenship to live here. After five years you can even become a Belize citizen and still not denounce your US one. Beware - getting a permit is a slow process. It took me a year to get mine and I had already lived here a year. Bring a bycycle - with the roads the way they are it is a better ride.

What if you buy a vehicle that is already registered? or is the permit more for the driver, not the vehicle? AC

the permit is non-transferable...but sometimes the seller will leave the papers in their name for you. is that legal? Not that I mind bending the law hehe, Im just trying to get an idea on the way the law for this works down there. AC
