A lone Belgian boy is waiting to salute the Canadian troops who pass by after attending a memorial service. The "Eyes Right" command is the biggest compliment troops on parade can pay and is reserved for dignitaries in reviewing stands.
Today I remember and honour those who have served and those who are still serving to protect our peace.
Newfoundlanders are the only people in heaven who want to go home.
I too think of my Father today. He served in the Army in the South Pacific during WWII. He returned home safe and lived until age 83. Upon his death, my Brother and I found a letter he had written to his parents while he was at war. It was bone chilling. Parts of it were published as part of an article written about him and his passing.
Thank you to all who have served and will serve.
