With effect from Friday, the prices for the cooking gas will go up considerable by seven dollars. At the beginning of the year, consumers were paying sixty-three dollars per cylinder, which means that the prices have gone up an average of forty-four dollars or by seventy percent. Just after the Prime Minister's departure to Miami for a tourism conference, government announced today the price hike which catapults the prices in this manner: in Belize City and Corozal Town, it will sell at one hundred and seven dollars, in Orange Walk the new price is one hundred and eight, in Belmopan and San Ignacio, it will sell for one hundred and nine. Further away in Benque, it will retail for one hundred and ten dollars, in Dangriga, at one hundred and eleven and in Punta Gorda, the new price beginning Friday is one hundred and twelve dollars.

There will be a sharp increase in the price of butane tomorrow. The controlled price for a one hundred pound cylinder is going up from one hundred to one hundred and seven dollars in Belize City. That seven dollar increase will apply across the board. The increase is a result of a hike in acquisition costs.
