PIANO AND VIOLIN RECITALS IN BELIZE
Christopher Collins Lee (US) and Marieli Sosa (Mexico) will perform recitals in Belmopan and Belize City.
The events will be free and are sponsored by the embassies of Mexico and the US.
Belmopan, 23 November 2009.- Musicians Marieli Sosa of Mexico and Christopher Collins Lee of the US will perform two recitals, which will include works by Vitali, Schubert, O´Connor, Kreisler and John Williams, among others. The first recital will be held at the George Price Centre for Peace and Development in Belmopan, on Saturday 28 November at 6:00 p.m. The second concert will be held at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts in Belize City, on Sunday 29 November at 6:00 p.m. Both recitals are FREE and open to the general public.
The renowned pianist Marieli Sosa was born in Mérida, Mexico. She graduated from the University of Veracruz, Mexico, and with honors from the University of Music in Vienna, Austria. She has performed successfully in different cities of Mexico, as well as in the United States and Austria. Marieli Sosa has performed as a solo in different symphony orchestras and within several Chamber music groups and ensembles. In 1997 she founded the "Jose Jacinto Cuevas" Music Centre. In 2001 she participated in the formation of the Symphony Orchestra of Yucatan. She lectures at the Superior School for Arts of Yucatan since 2005, and in January 2009 she recorded her first CD in Austria, performing Latin America pieces.
American renowned violinist Christopher Collins Lee is a graduate from Julliard School of Music in New York; has a PhD from Stony Brook School, as well as honorary doctorates from the University of Taipei and the Conservatory of Music of Beijing. He has been a lecturer at those academic institutions, as well as the Conservatory of Genoa and Shanghai, among others. He has received several awards; among those is the Guggenheim, the Fulbright, the Belgian Award and the Fritz Kreisler prize. He has performed recitals in the USA, South America and Africa, and as Musical Ambassador of the Department of State of the USA to the Far East. He has done solo performances with different orchestras directed by great masters. He also has recorded CDs with various companies.
The recitals are hosted in collaboration by the Embassy of Mexico, the US Embassy, the National Institute for Culture and History of Belize (NICH) and the George Price Centre for Peace and Development in order to promote culture and classical music in Belize.
