I am open for correction, but I was told by several old timers that this Land-Rover left by British Solders on Ambergris Caye was the first automobile on the island.
It was used to carry luggage from the airstrip to the Holiday Hotel before it died completely. This photo shows it beside Laborio Azueta's house , he was the island mechanic.
I think i took this in 1986.
Marty please excuse the big file you can reduce it if you like.

I remember Mr. Marciano driving that landrover for years, and years, and years. They don't make vehicles like they used to. Thanks for the memories Elbert.

Doesn't look any older than the one my brother has in England. 286,000 miles and still going strong.

Didn't Nando Trejo Sr. have a red pick up truck that was in use about the same time as Marciano's jeep?

It looks that same as a Land Rover I had in Botswana in the 60's. Styles didn't change much, mine was the left over parts from 3 other rebuilds, so it had no real date of manufacture other that it was built in Botswana in 1968. Small scale auto plant. Mine you could even hand crank to start. Those were the days.

I think Nando did end up with a jeep, but somehow remember him loading our luggage and us in the back of a red pick up. Will have to stop Landy and see if he remembers.
