Some of you know that our Belizean friend Solomon Williams is staying with us in San Diego. He has been here since July and is working on his flight training. He has a pilot position waiting for him in Belize when he is finished. Solomon used to work at the SunBreeze. (His sister is married to Ernie of BC's fame and his two brothers also work in San Pedro.)
Solomon has over 100 hours now and is half way through his IFR rating. You should have seen the look on his face when his Pilot's license arrived the other day! He will go back home with a Private, Commercial, Multi Engine and IFR rating.
It's a pretty amazing story how he has scraped together the funds for his training. A few of the skydivers have helped him out and he has a loan through Scotia Bank in San Pedro.
It appears he is going to be about $10,000 short to finish up. All of the ratings, check rides and books will total nearly $50,000.
Solomon is passing all of his tests and check rides with flying colors. He studies about four hours every evening. He has to take a bus and the trolley to the airport on days we can't drive him. It has been a pretty amazing ordeal so far.
So for the first time ever I am asking the board members if they could help out with a donation. Even a check for $10 would help. I spoke with Marty about this yesterday to see what he thought of my posting of this. His reply was, "this is what the message board is all about, great idea".
If you can help Solomon out please send me a PM. All checks would be made out to the flight school to be put directly on his account.
Thanks!
