This weekend's Sidewalk Arts Festival is shaping up to be a great weekend!!!!! Several artists including Pen & Ingrid Cayetano, Image Factory, Lola's Art, Kate Devine, Aline Habib, & Boyarde Messenger will be present throughout the weekend! Also along the sidewalk will be delicious food booths with barbecue from Malu & Barbara, Indian cuisine from Saffron's, and pastries from the St. John's PTA. Also don't forget the businesses that make their home along Placencia's Sidewalk - everyone has come on board to support this year's Placencia Sidewalk Arts Festival!

The fest will start at 10 on Saturday morning. Limited edition Placencia Sidewalk Arts Festival T-shirts will be on sale throughout the weekend at the main tent. Look out for the Placencia BTIA Bar - being tended by some hardworking volunteers. Stop in for a cold drink and check out just who those bar tenders are!

PLACENCIA SIDEWALK ARTS FESTIVAL TO TAKE PLACE THIS WEEKEND

The Placencia sidewalk will be filled with color and a number of activities this weekend as the annual Placencia Sidewalk Arts festival takes center stage. Love News spoke with Elysia Dial, Director of the Placencia Tourism Center.

Elysia Dial; Director, Placencia Tourism Center

"The Placencia BTIA has taken on this year's Placencia sidewalk arts festival; it is going to be featuring a lot of different artists.  We have Pen Cayetano and his wife Ingrid, they are coming down with the Pen Cayetano Studio Gallery; we have Image Factory coming in, we have artists coming in from San Pedro, from all over the country, we are really excited about it. This is our first year but the weather is beautiful and I think it is going to go great. We also have quite a few different kinds of food that's going to be available out there along the sidewalk this weekend.  For the first time we're going to have different booths, not just arts, not just food, but all sorts of things. We're also going to have a lot of live entertainment throughout the weekend. Everybody has been so supportive and just saying we want to play for an hour and spend some time.  Originally the group the Placencia Peninsula Arts Association created this festival as a way to raise awareness about the arts around the Peninsula and in the country and it has really become a draw for both tourists and Belizean tourists to come down and visit Placencia. Everybody is always talking about Placencia, the beach; we also have our sidewalk which was once the heart of Placencia Village so it is a way to pay tribute to the sidewalk because the festival takes place along the sidewalk, it's a way to pay tribute to the arts because there are so many creative people in Belize and it's also a way to get people down here to see what Placencia has to offer other than just our beaches."

Dial said the activities will get underway at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning.

Elysia Dial

"We'll have music starting then; also live performances won't start until later in the afternoon.  It is going to run from ten in the morning to ten in the evening tomorrow. At six in the evening the Rotary Club of Placencia are going to do an auction, they are raising funds for several different projects they are working on, we have a very active Rotary Club. We're going to have some fire twirling at about eight o'clock, and then we're going to have live music until ten. On Sunday we're going to start at ten and we're going to end at six because this is supposed to be a low key fun weekend, we don't want to wear anybody out that they can't go to work the next day but it's going to be really nice."

LOVE FM
