We have picked where we are staying and thought someone could give me some advice concerning what type of fishing gear to bring with me. We plan on geting a guide while we are there for a couple of days but also wanted to walk out and fish off the pier on a whim. I heard you can rent equipment although it is generally in poor conditoin or expensive If I was to bring a rod & reel what test line/leaders would be needed for fishing close to the beach?

Those posts have good info. I'm assuming your spin fishing. Try to find some shad darts. They're a small(#6), usually 2-toned, red/pearl and red/yellow, jig that's especially effective on bonefish. But tipped with some shrimp, you'll do fine off a pier, or at the cut. "gray light" is best, assuming the tide is with you.

Flyfishing my way through mid-life crisis.
