Getting to Belize on Thursday and staying at Matachica. I'm wondering what restaurants/bars we should check out in San Pedro. Any suggestions would be great. And also, is there a taxi service to get us to and from the hotel when we go to San Pedro?

Rojo, right next door to Mata Chica is a great restaurant. In town, Blue Water Grill, Wild Mango's, El Patio, Caliente, Lily's, Carambas. Lots of great options...and try the street vendors too. Good food cheap. Lots of bars too - Fido's, Ramon's, Wet Willies, TackleBox, Crazy Canuks are some long time faves with live music.
There are water taxis you can take to & from the hotel, private ones or several services run regular ferry schedules every other hour or so in either direction, for about $5 US pp each way. On your initial arrival and departure, the hotel will transfer you, included in the room rates.

The Reef is really good and inexpensive. El Fogon for authentic Maya and Belizean food, usually open only for lunch. Elvi's is great. Try their Friday night all-you-can-eat Maya buffet. Waragumu for great pupusas, cheap. Hidden Treasure for lovely, romantic location.

Also, Lazy Croc is great barbecue about a mile or so north of the bridge. Weekends only. Legends Burger is great too. Just north of the bridge and Reef Village.

+1 on the Lazy Croc. Aji, Akbol are also nice.
