my husband and i and our next door neighbors are coming to belize, arriving on 4/1/01. spending 3 days at a jungle lodge in the cayo district with trips to the belize zoo, tikal, and horsebackriding in the jungle before heading over to AC for 5 days of fun in the sun. both guys are avid divers but we girls are novice snorkelers. Any ideas for places to snorkel in our experience range? There seem to be so many things to do but so little time. the guys are planning a day trip to the blue hole-any suggestions for what we girls can do for the day? been reading a lot about mosquitos-are they really as bad a problem as noted in the guidebooks? can't wait to leave the snow behind-so far we've had 150 inches and still counting! hope to hear from someone soon with some fun things to do.

Chris..we don't dive or snorkel, but I am sure that you can find plenty to do while the guys are diving. We veg, swim, sun, walk the beach, eat, etc.,and not in that order.Where are you staying? We have never stayed on the north end of the island, but know you have to take a water taxi to town, but that is no big deal.We rented a golf cart for the week and were very glad we did..went everywhere, even tho it is a small island,my husband had a bad hip and could not do much walking,so we were able to go everywhere. There are lots of stores for buying or browsing, and so many places to eat! You will not have a problem finding something to do,take my word for it. Where do you live? 150 inches of snow! You must be ready for AC!Belize it!

Forgot to mention the bugs. We did not have a problem unless the weather was very still and/or rainy.Take plenty of OFF,Benadryl cream and pills and you will be fine..bugs are overrated in our opinion.

Bigmommachris, do not worry about being novice snorkelers, the guides are well trained and they will take perfect care of you, staying close by you and pointing out all the beautiful coral and fish. My first snorkeling trip in Belize was my first attempt ever. Remember this is how they earn their livelyhoods, and they do everything possible for you to have a great experience, and to become a repeat customer.
