from a friend just now...

WOW!!

Another earthquake at 9:17 a.m. local time, just now. Lasted about 3 minutes. At the worst of it, I had to hold my computer monitors on the table top again.

We are getting minor after tremors still right now.

lil later....

Quiet now, back to normal. But for about 5 minutes we were getting tremblors and we got three big ones out of which one was bigger and longer than the others. At least it seemed that way. My monitor sits on a couple of cement blocks high up on a table and we are on the 3 rd floor, so I guess we act as a seismic sensor. Nobody on the 1st floor in the main house felt anything.

5.4 Quake Shakes Guatemala

Belizeans from the Toledo District all the way to Benque Viejo felt a tremor at 9:15 this morning. The source was a magnitude 5.4 earthquake in Guatemala near its northern border with Mexico.

International news reports say that the quake was centered 51 miles north northeast of Huehuetenago, and 106 miles north northwest of Guatemala City. A 5.6 magnitude quake is capable of considerable damage but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

In Belize City it did cause a scary tremor though – particularly for those in large concrete buildings and one large bank is reported to have activated its earthquake evacuation plan and cleared out the building.
