hey everyone-
So i decided to splurge and hunker down at matachica. My main objective during my trip is snorkeling!
We're definitely planning Shark Ray Alley and Hol-Chan, but would like to know if we can kayak to nearby spots close to matachica.

I've heard of Mexico Rocks, but it appears a little far to go via kayak. Any other cool spots close by?

Yes you can easily Kayak out to the Reef from Mata Chica, not sure if they are still there but we put out Buoys to mark the good snorkeling spots on the reef in front of Rojo.

With regards to Mexico Rocks, you could kayak to it but its a fair way and depending on wind you could be battling oncoming breeze. If its a calm day with little breeze you could do it easily I think if your fairly fit.

Couple of safety points to consider.

1.) Be sure to have flotation devices
2.) Be sure to have some sort of anchoring device in case the buoys are not there or a problem occurs where you need to secure the kayak.

We used to give guests a rope with scuba weight belt on the end and advise to only drop it in sandy areas if they needed to which was not really the case since the buoys were there to tie up on.

3.) be sure to advise the resort where you are going and what time to expect you back .

Thanks for your response!
With that said, If we wanted to kayak to Mexico Rocks, would it be a much easier and/or shorter paddle from Portofino instead?
