Winds: East to Northeast winds 10-15mph. Air Temperature: Highs in the low 80's lows in the lower 70's. Water Temperature: Temp: 83 F. degrees. Sunrise: 5:52 am Sunset: 5:20 pm Moonphase: First Quarter. WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING: BONEFISH (Macabi): Another week of good fishing for Bonefish. With the water temperature cooling slightly and the calmer winds, the larger bonefish are staying on the flats. Several anglers landed fish over five pounds, which is a big bonefish around here. The largest bonefish in the lodge's history is eight pounds, so over five is awesome! Mariano, while fishing in the lagoon with Joey and Heather, hooked bonefish estimated to be over six pounds. PERMIT (Palometta): The permit bite is remaining productive, but as usual can be challenging to keep on the line. More fish hooked than landed, and anglers are coming back to the lodge with stories of the one that got away. Mike and Brian did, however, manage to land some and Brian landed two during his stay. Good job Brian and Mike! TARPON (Sabalo): The tarpon are much more receptive to anglers than the permit this week and have been willing to tug hard on the line. Wanda, on her first Tarpon trip, jumped a one-hundred-pound tarpon and landed a fifty pounder. Steve, Wanda's fishing partner also landed a fifty pounder, and Brian managed to boat a sixty-five pounder, while Pete's tarpon was nearly eighty pounds. OTHER SPECIES: Snapper, jacks, barracuda, grouper, ladyfish and snook. GRAND SLAM: No Grand Slams this week. FLIES THAT WORKED FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink size 6 & 8. FOR PERMIT - Peterson Shrimp, Mantis shrimp and Avalon crabs and Squimp. FOR TARPON - Toads and bunnies, black on black, chartreuse, red on black, tan and olive and white all continue to work well. Winds: Northeast winds 5-15 mph with some gusty winds. Air Temperature: Highs in the low 80's Lows in the lower to middle 70's. Water Temperature: Temp: 83 F. degrees. Sunrise: 6:00 am Sunset: 5:16 pm Moonphase: New Moon. WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING: BONEFISH (Macabi): The larger bonefish continue to hang around on the flats. Sightings of five to six pounders are becoming the norm as the water continues to cool. Big numbers of bonefish were caught in a single day of fishing. Each Bonefishing angler is landing at least several larger fish as part of their daily total. It is a great time to be on the flats Bonefishing! . PERMIT (Palometta): Lots and lots of permit are being seen with over ten permit landed this week. Two anglers landed seven in just two days of fishing. The permit are hungry and ready to eat. Andrew managed to land his first permit that weighed in at over twenty-five pounds. Awesome permit fishing the last couple of weeks! TARPON (Sabalo): The tarpon are around in fairly large numbers but are not as eager to play as the bonefish and permit. The tide and wind have made some of the tarpon fishing days difficult, but anglers continue to have some success. The snook bite has been ramping up so lots of fisherman going after those guys using streamer patterns. Be sure to come prepared for snook and have a little extra fun and the chance at a Super Slam. OTHER SPECIES: Lookdowns, snapper, jacks, barracuda, ladyfish and snook. GRAND SLAM: No Grand Slams this week. FLIES THAT WORKED FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8. FOR PERMIT - Peterson Shrimp, Mantis shrimp and Avalon crabs and Squimp. WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING: BONEFISH (Macabi): A nice week with family and friends. The lodge has been close to full this week with lots of folks coming to Belize to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday in the Caribbean. The weather has been beautiful, and the bonefish have been hungry. Juan, one of our favorite guests, came down with the Orvis BBB group and managed to land a total of fifty-eight bonefish. Good job Juan! PERMIT (Palometta): With all the families came lots of kids, and a few of them ended up catching most of the fish. It's funny how the kids are always the lucky ones. Twelve-year-old Molly Sue managed to land three permit, barracuda, jacks and yellowtail snapper while spin fishing with her dad who landed two permit himself. Fourteen-year-old Lucca landed permit and tarpon as well and a host of other fish while fly fishing with his dad. It's cool to see the young generation of anglers be successful on the flats. TARPON (Sabalo): The tarpon were also kind to the moms this week, and Aimee managed to land her first tarpon while fishing with Captain Vince. The tarpon are a little crazy this week with the west wind, so the anglers are going into the deeper channels on the flats to catch them. Early morning seems to be the best time to get a shot. OTHER SPECIES: Mayan Cichlid, lookdowns, mangrove snapper, jacks, barracuda, yellowtail snapper, and snook. GRAND SLAM: No Grand Slams this week. Winds: Northwest and west winds 10-15mph. Air Temperature: Highs in the low 80's Lows in the lower to middle 70's. Water Temperature: Temp: 83 F. degrees. Sunrise: 6:07 am Sunset: 5:17 pm Moonphase: Full Moon (Dec. 3rd) WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING: BONEFISH (Macabi): Working his way through all the species that we target, Alan landed over forty bonefish and a host of other species. All of our anglers were successful in spite of the west wind blowing. Bonefish are the last fish to get spooked when the west wind blows because they prefer a falling tide as long as it doesn't fall too much too quickly. Anglers headed north to wade and found some big bonefish tailing on the flats near Rocky Point. The lagoon fishing turned out to be productive as well. Always good Bonefishing here! PERMIT (Palometta): Our in-house anglers landed over twenty. Alan, a fly fishing angler from the UK, managed to land twenty Permit during his stay and sixteen of those in a single day. He found the perfect fly after changing flies several times and the permit could not resist. Catching sixteen permit in a lifetime is a fine achievement, but sixteen in a single day is unheard of!! Nice work Alan! TARPON (Sabalo): When the west wind blows, the tarpon go into deeper channels where they feel more comfortable and have a tendency not to feed as often - which is exactly what happened this week as the wind direction changed to a west/northwest wind. A lot of tarpon have been visible on the flats but only a few caught. The front passed by and the flats are again full of water so we look forward to more tarpon stories this coming week. OTHER SPECIES: Mayan Cichlid, lookdowns, mangrove snapper, jacks, barracuda, yellowtail snapper, and snook. GRAND SLAM: Congratulations to Gus on his Grand Slam. FLIES THAT WORKED FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Specials in orange, pearl and pink sizes 6 & 8. FOR PERMIT - Squimp, Mantis shrimp, Mink shrimp and Peterson's shrimp size 6&8. Winds: Northwest and with gusty winds at times. Air Temperature: Highs in the low 80's Lows in the low 70's to high 60's. Water Temperature: Temp: 82 F. degrees. Sunrise: 6:12 am Sunset: 5:17 pm Moonphase: Third Quarter (Dec. 10th) WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING: BONEFISH (Macabi): Big bonefish are continuing to cruise the flats and are eating well. Several anglers have landed bonefish near five pounds on their way to double digit days. The water temperature has dropped to 82 degrees, which lends itself to the larger bones being on the flats. PERMIT (Palometta): We had a great week of permit fishing with eight being landed in a single day. Mark caught a twenty five pound permit on his way to his Grand Slam. Bill caught two and Paul caught three during their stay. Collin also had a great day and landed three in a single day. TARPON (Sabalo): The tarpon continue to be elusive because of the west wind. We did have several tarpon landed this week; but once again there were lots of tarpon sightings and only a few takes. The good news is the snook continue to be active and anglers are having fun with those instead. Be sure to bring some chartreuse and white Clousers for the snook. OTHER SPECIES: Spanish mackerel, lookdowns, barracuda, Mayan Cichlid, snapper and jacks. GRAND SLAM: Congratulations to Mark T. for his Grand Slam on Fly! Sunrise: 6:23am am Sunset: 5:28 pm Moonphase: Full Moon (Jan 1st) WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING: BONEFISH (Macabi): Families and friends joined us this week for fishing and fun and to celebrate the coming year. Out with the old and in with the new. As old friends left new friends came to enjoy a great week of togetherness and bonefishing. Lots of tugs this week as everyone caught the bonefish fever. Be careful it's contagious. PERMIT (Palometta): A couple of the holiday anglers were going after permit this week and managed to land the ever so elusive permit. Greg made it a week grand slam catching all three species throughout his stay and his sons Gram and Will each landed permit as well. Our youngest angler Turner managed to land four permit and was top rod in the Ashby family. Way to go Turner!! TARPON (Sabalo): Greg, Chris and Vivian all chased tarpon this week and were successful. Greg, during his last day on the water landed a 45-pound tarpon and Chris and Vivian managed to hook up and land one as well. Vivian was the only angler in her family to land a tarpon and walked away with the family bragging rights. One sure way to make a return trip is for "mom" to catch the tarpon and get the fever. OTHER SPECIES: Queen trigger, barracuda, SquirrelFish, ladyfish, and snapper. GRAND SLAM: No Slams this week in one day but two family slams for the week. WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING: BONEFISH (Macabi): Aaron Adams joined us for a few days to do some Bonefish tagging with Addiel Perez. The findings will help encourage Coastal Zone Management to add more protection to some additional spaces where the Bonefish are spawning. All of our in-house anglers enjoyed the week of Bonefishing and the education they received talking to Aaron about the fishery. Check out our website for the "Best Practices for Catch and Release Fishing" then come and join us for some fishing fun. PERMIT (Palometta): This was the week for the female anglers to shine and shine they did, with most of the permit being landed by the girls. Mikinzie and Meris are top rods in their families this week, and Ernie and Gary also landed permit. The permit fishing has been tough this week because of the colder temps we have been experiencing as the cold air pushed south. No snow though! TARPON (Sabalo): The tarpon have also been elusive this week, but once again our female anglers got it done. Anne, jumped and got one to the leader and landed a nice tarpon and Olivia jumped three. John and Noah also had fun landing their tarpon as well. As we get closer to the end of winter and the west winds subside the tarpon will move and become more active on the flats. It is a good thing that our"winter" only lasts a few weeks and doesn't come all at once. One week on, one week off. We are looking forward to next week! OTHER SPECIES: Mayan Cichlid, nurse shark, Queen Trigger, barracuda, snapper, and palometa. GRAND SLAM: No Slams this week. WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING: BONEFISH (Macabi): The anglers are enjoying a quieter time at the lodge this week as we move into a slower couple of weeks after the Holidays. All of the anglers are catching plenty of bonefish. Clive, who was here from Canada, managed to land over twenty bonefish during his three days of fishing. PERMIT (Palometta): The weather has settled down and now the fish are moving on to the flats to feed in large numbers. Bonefish, tarpon, and permit are giving our anglers nice shots. Jay caught a permit that was over twenty pounds his first day on the water. Jay normally is fishing in freshwater for smallmouth bass and walleye but is getting hooked on the saltwater experience. A twenty to twenty-five-pound permit on the end of the line is a super fun moment when the hook up happens. Come experience the fun! TARPON (Sabalo): More tarpon on the flats this week. Anglers are seeing and getting opportunities to cast at large numbers of Tarpon as the weather improves. Everyone fishing has seen Tarpon. Some of us are ready and some are not; but always neat to see these massive fish whether you're ready or not. Here they come! OTHER SPECIES: Mayan Cichlid, nurse shark, Queen Trigger, barracuda, snapper, and palometa. GRAND SLAM: No Slams this week. Winds: North, Northeast winds 5-15 mph. Air Temperature: Highs in the Low 80's Lows in the low 70's some high 60's. Water Temperature: Temp: 80 F. degrees. Sunrise: 6:26am am Sunset: 5:36 pm Moonphase: New Moon (Jan.24th). WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING: BONEFISH (Macabi): Bonefish are always available for the bite and this week continued to prove that fact. Several anglers landed over thirty in a single day. The anglers are enjoying a quieter time at the lodge once again as we move closer to the start of our busy season. Lots of friends scheduled for visits over the months to come. Join us! PERMIT (Palometta): The permit bite was still on this week in spite of the rain and cooler temperatures. Permit are always hard to land even on the perfect days, but Wade and friends got it done! Alan and Peter landed three each for their week of fishing. Way to go guys! Hopefully the weather will improve and give our in-house anglers another good week of permit chasing! TARPON (Sabalo): Tarpon on the flats this week and eating. The tarpon, just like the anglers, are ready for a break in the weather and become very active any chance they get. Anglers are seeing and getting opportunities to cast at reasonably large numbers.
